Assistant Principals are a vital piece to the leadership in schools, yet their importance is often overlooked. The Assistant Principalship is an important step in career development which can lead to stronger principals and better outcomes for all students.

FASA is pleased to announce Lucretia Waskow has been named the 2023-24 recipient of the Florida NASSP Assistant Principal of the Year Award. Waskow has been an assistant principal for the past six and a half years, with the last year and a half at Ruckel Middle School, in Niceville, Florida. She continuously works to cultivate an environment where well-being and safety are paramount, fostering an atmosphere conducive to productive learning and interaction among students and adults.

“Mrs. Waskow is a true leader who embodies FASA’s mission of providing a high-quality education to all students in Florida. She takes the time to know the passions and talents of the teachers, which creates a learning environment where students feel valued and empowered,” said Michele White, CAE, Executive Director, FASA.

“Mrs. Waskow has helped to create a climate of success that extends beyond Ruckel Middle School to a globally competitive capacity. She believes we must bring out the intrinsic potential of each person on campus in order to positively impact potential capacity,” said Joe Jannazo, Principal of Ruckel Middle School.

The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) recognizes accomplished middle and high school-level assistant principals from across the nation and abroad as a part of its annual Assistant Principal of the Year Award.
