Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter honors Youth Construction Academy students

Industry,

In partnership with South Lake, Leesburg and Eustis high schools, Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter built four new homes over the past academic year as part of a vocational education program. And in recent weeks, the students were celebrated during dedication ceremonies.

Habitat Lake-Sumter’s Youth Construction Academy is designed to provide experiential learning and introduce students to the field of construction, according to Habitat. Students graduate with access and opportunities for internships and employment.

The four home building projects took place around the county. Construction of each home began at the start of the fall semester and continued through April.

Leesburg High School and RoMac Building Supply presented a home dedication for the Smith family in Leesburg on April 30. This was Habitat’s fifth annual partnership with Leesburg High School through its Youth Construction Academy program.

Eustis High School students constructed two new homes, one sponsored by Carter’s Ace Hardware and the other by First National Bank of Mount Dora. They presented a joint home dedication ceremony for the homes, located in The Cottages at Heritage Grove in Tavares, on May 3.

In its Habitat’s fourth annual Youth Construction Academy program with South Lake High School and with sponsorship by White Aluminum & Windows, Habitat presented a home dedication for the Marquad family in Mascotte on May 7.

The dedication ceremonies also celebrated the students of the program and were open to the public.
