My Whole Life
I’ve always loved watching movies and reading biographies. I love hearing the stories of people’s lives. Their ups and downs, victories and losses, failures and celebrations. On a recent plane ride I watched One Life, the Bob Marley story. I’ve always loved his music and his message. There’s so many songs that we all know and want to sing along to.
Without giving away too many details of the movie, near the end he had written Redemption Song. As he was playing it, his wife walked in and heard the beautiful melody. She stopped what she was doing and looked at him lovingly. She asked him when he had written that song.
Bob Marley paused and looked back at her, paused again and said “my whole life.”
Bob’s music and journey brought him to the point of that beautiful and legendary song. It is one of his best and most memorable.
The work we do over the course of our lifetime compounds. Our experiences, our failures, and successes all add up into the person we become, and the impact we can have.
I’ve made more mistakes that I can remember over my journey. Whether it was in school, officiating, in my books and more, but those experiences shape us. They make us better and help us continue to move forward.
When Bob Marley said that line “my whole life,” I must have hit the rewind button three or four times. It made me reflect and want to continue my journey of growing, leading, and learning.
I wish you the best on your journey. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if I can help you! Keep surviving and thriving friends.
